Spring has sprung and cherry blossom season has peaked in New York. Everyone knows about the Sakura Matsuri Festival at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. But, did you know that Madison Square Park is currently blooming with cherry trees?
Cherry blossoms are the national flower of Japan. The Japanese believe that these flowers represent the fragility and beauty of life. Cherry trees are beautiful in full bloom, but the blossoms last for one to two weeks.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden has the most lavish cherry blossom celebration in the city. This year the festival took place on April 29-30. If you missed the festival, Cherry Esplanade is still in peak bloom. We recommend you check out the Cherry Watch before your visit. This week, we wanted to explore the cherry blossoms in other parts of the New York City.

Madison Square Park (MSP) is a small urban park located in the heart of Flatiron and Nomad between 23rd/26th street and Fifth/Madison Ave. MSP was named after President James Madison.

Cherry blossom season in MSP runs from April to mid May. The garden, currently, has a few cherry blossom trees scattered around the south and north entrances of the park. These trees offer blooms that range in color from light pink to vibrant pink.

We highly recommend catching the end of cherry blossom season. These delicate, ephermal flowers are gorgeous and make for excellent photo opportunities.
